Experience the west coast - here will be some species from atlanticadventure.no

The coastal path is a nice hiking trail that offers spectacular nature experiences. The seven-kilometre-long path, which is gravel, is suitable for everyone and can be driven with both prams and robust wheelchairs. It is a round trip that alternates between new and old in the fishing village of Bud, the ocean at Hustadvika and quieter routes at the foot of Gulberget. There is a gravel path with benches along the way and a campfire hut at Gulberget which is open to everyone. The round trip takes approximately 1.5 hours. Read more here.

The coastal path in Bud

The characteristic of the Coastal Path in Bud is the diverse terrain it winds through. The round trip is about 6-7 km long and offers a gravel path through forests of pine and larch at the foot of Gulberget before crossing the main road and walking along the cliffs by the feared sea passage Hustadvika. Then the path turns again and winds its way through Buaværet, past fishermen’s huts and old boathouses, through residential areas with charming houses and well-kept gardens. And there’s no danger of blood sugar failing here, as the trail passes restaurants and shops offering fish soup, buffets, soft ice cream, and good ingredients. Along the trail, there are fireplaces, resting benches, and informative signs. Equally beautiful in the summer as in the winter, as it’s often snow-free in Bud during winter.

Gulberget

With its 160 meters above sea level, Gulberget is an easily accessible hiking destination for most people. It’s a nice walk in relatively easy terrain that can be suitable for the whole family. The hike is within walking distance from the campsite. More information about the hike and all 6 checkpoints along the round trip at the top can be found on signs at the start of the trail. Feel free to ask us for directions. At the top, you’re rewarded with a spectacular view of the ocean and the surrounding areas of Bud. It’s especially great to enjoy the sight of the sun setting into the sea from there. Highly recommended!

National tourist route

Located 3 miles north of Bud is the Atlantic Ocean Road, a popular destination for day trips by car or bike. This road has been voted one of the world’s most beautiful drives and lives up to its name and reputation. On one of the islands, visitors can take a break and stroll along the suspension bridge, which also has a café. One of the bridges has a separate pedestrian pathway for fishermen, making it a popular spot for fishing at a safe distance from traffic. A visit here is equally beautiful all year round, and particularly charming and fascinating when the sky and sea are lively.

Trollkirka

Trollkirka is a half-hour drive from Bud Camping. Here, you can experience cave exploration, beautiful views, and mountain lake swimming all in one trip. The limestone caves have several chambers, marble pools, underground streams, and a 14-meter waterfall inside the cave. Good hiking shoes are necessary for the somewhat rugged trail, warm clothing should be worn inside the caves, a headlamp is necessary for hands-free exploration, and a helmet should be worn since the ceiling is low at times. The trip takes a couple of hours, so packing a lunch and drinks in a backpack is recommended. This is an attraction we highly recommend – it’s a trip you won’t forget!
